I can’t forget these lessons I learned because they make a big impact in my life.I would like to share few of my lessons with you….“Forgive others for their ignorance” – I face this very often because not many people have awareness of what it is like to be deaf. It’s not their fault because they don’t always do it on purpose. Ignorance is bound to happen and is not something to stress about. Yes, a lot of people make assumptions that we are stupid because we can’t hear, but it’s very important to educate and help others so they can be more aware. Educating them can bring down their own ignorance.“I-can-do-it” Attitude – That’s an essential thing to have in life, as I always have tried to show people that my deafness don’t prevent me from doing something that I love to do such as socializing, going to college or be an actress for shows/movies. What I can do should matter more than what I can’t do. I just can’t hear but I can do anything.“See others for who they are inside” – Everyone has different qualities that we don’t see that are so worth knowing. The outside doesn’t matter at all.“Strength” – I learn to build strength, as I have to work hard to prove myself that I can do anything and prove other people wrong. Life is something that we make out of it.I am sure you have already seen the show called “Switch at Birth” these deaf actors and actress are inspiring and successful! Gabrielle ClevelandI honestly think it would be a fun experience to work on the show and I am trying to become something in my life instead of doing the usual jobs, I want something new, risky. I am hard working especially for something I want to do. Once I set my mind to something I don’t want to have to give up on it. I am 15. I tried acting when I was younger but I was told I needed acting lessons for my shyness so I kind of put the acting off for a little bit and wanted to focus on school and being a kid for a while. Akera BriscoeWell, growing up, I was a shy young girl. I rarely spoke out loud in front of the class. It was a dark and confusing period of my life. I felt as though I were trapped in a box. From inside this box, i could look out on the world as an observer . Over the years, i observed and observed a new life, the theater life. I wanted to feel what it would be like to do something i have been observing all these years. My Junior year of high school, i decided to try out for our school play “Hair Spray”. I was nervous, butterflies flew out my stomach like a winters day. They called my name, and i gave it my all, as if nobody was in the crowd. A few days after, i got a call from the Theater director, saying i made the cut. That was the day i felt invincible, and that i could do anything. Tears rushing down my face with such pride and courage, that i finally did it. I’ve gotten out of my shy stage. From that day on, i have auditioned for every and any school play that occurred. No matter how hard the challenge, no matter how difficult the situation, no matter the delays, or discouragement, i have given performing arts my all, and i continue to do so with my future goals. I highly feel this opportunity here, will be such a extraordinary and life changing event. The fact that i will get to be hands on with such an amazing network, and cast is a wonderful experience let alone. You will NEVER expect a day where you wont see 100% of my effort and dedication. My journey to wanting to become an entertainer on and off film started when I was around 2. I was sick one day and my mom put on a classic horror film for some reason. She told me I forgot I was sick and started imitating the actors and the animals. From that point on my love for entertainment grew.
